Pahrump Hot Air Balloon Festival

I have been dying to go to a new hot air balloon festival and when I found one in Pahrump which is only a few hours away, I knew we had to make it happen. It was tricky because of weather and we ended up not being able to camp but overall I am so glad we went!

We got in Friday night and it was too windy for any balloons to do a glow so we just got dinner and went to where we were staying for the night (Couchsurfing) and went to bed. The next morning started early and the weather was good to fly luckily!

The park was by a firehouse and the firemen lifted the ladder high in to the air with the USA flag on it so we could salute and do a National Anthem before the balloons inflated.

Some pilots like to lay tarps out so that dirt and debri doesn't tear their balloon.

There were more than 20 hot air balloons that got to fly Saturday morning.

It was so cold! I am glad I brought lots of warm clothes

After our balloon took off we jumped in our car to become the chase crew. We were following the pilot's husband and another crew person as we went up and down streets and dirt roads so we could be closeby when Sandy decided to land the balloon, Instagraham.

It was nice landing near Kurt (another CA pilot) and his crew because they let us use their tarp and helped us get the balloon packed up a bit as well.

We tailgated at the park and went out and did some exploring closer to Vegas in the afternoon along with eating at Sonic and making a Walmart run. Sadly in the evening it was too windy for the balloons to glow but one did inflate for a bit although it was bobbing around a lot in the wind which is always nerve wracking to me.  Such a wonderful day in Pahrump with the balloons!
