Freeze Drying Adventures - A Little Bit of Everything

** This post contains affiliate links **

Container of freeze dried raspberries! We kept some whole and some we made in to powder.

Freeze drying is the best way to store food as it keeps all the nutrients and unlike dehydrating where you lose a lot of the nutritional value and the food gets hard and leathery. Freeze drying removes the water from food at extremely cold temperatures. Plus it lasts a lot longer than canned or dehydrated food. 25-30 years depending on what you freeze dry.

At the beginning of March we purchased a Harvest Right freeze dryer.

Thanksgiving Day 2019

Big news first? Okay! IT SNOWED IN RIDGECREST! And I can't believe we were not home to witness it. Luckily we had our house cameras so we got to track the progress of the snow. It was quite fun to watch but crazy that after being home for 2 weeks and getting on the road again, the weather decided to give this small desert town some snow. Sigh. Such is life...

A Saturday in Mesa, AZ

Saturday morning started with meeting my friend and former coworker in Chandler at a restaurant called U.S. Egg. I wasn't sure how it would be but was pleasantly surprised.

Albion Idaho Reunion Eats

We had so many good meals while we were at the reunion but one of my favorites was an interesting dish. They had 2 tall metal containers that looked like old fashioned milk buckets. The canning lid rings were put in the bottom first, then layered (I guess) with ham, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower and mushrooms. Steamed for a couple hours (I think) and dumped out in to these sled trays for everyone to dish up. It smelled fantastic and was so filling and good.

Dinner in Salina & Camping

Ate at the Hot Spot for dinner in Salina on Friday night
I liked this sign/decal on the side of their building that I saw as we waited for our food-
"Ok toots..." LOL

Shared a strawberry banana shake with Tony. So big and super delicious. One of the best I have had lately

My hamburger. Also tasted really great , no complaints

Sunset on Friday evening as we drove to our camp site. Looked cooler in person but I had to try to capture it.

Last time we camped at this particular spot there was a dead cow.
Pretty gross.
This time we encountered these crazy ant hills. Tried to not camp by them and things went okay.

Picking our camping spot!
