Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival ~ Day 1

There were 3 hot air balloon events happening all on the same weekend! Winnemucca and Minden, NV and then Temecula, CA. We've crewed (tether crew) for our friend Kim the past few years but wanted to switch things up this year. Since going to Minden didn't work out and Winnemucca is so fun (but a lot farther to go) we opted to go to Temecula again and we crewed for a pilot named Glenn See.

Crewing is the best when going to a hot air balloon festival because it saves a lot of money not having to pay for tickets to get in to events or parking. Kim is fantastic about getting crew passes so we don't have to worry about anything.

The inside of Glenn's balloon. Super pretty design!

Glenn surprised me by inviting me to go up and get a ride! Pictured in the basket with me is Adrian and behind her is Cathy. Both great and fun crew to work with.

Some views from above...

We landed in a nice enough spot and got the balloon packed up put away and we were on our own for the rest of the day. Glenn did not sign up to glow on Friday or Saturday night although we did help another pilot with his balloon on Saturday night.

Tony & I spent the afternoon shopping at Costco, Lowes, Sams Club, Aldi's, got an oil change at Walmart, went to the Tmobile store, Ross and Marshalls. Ate Peruvian food for lunch.
My feet were tired!

This is the only Peruvian restaurant in town I believe and it's part Mexican restaurant also. We got the Tallarin Saltado Beef and we thought it was the green noodles but this was not what we were expecting. Not enough veggies, I forgot to say no onions, meat ratio to noodles was low and I despise when restaurants make their prices changes obvious (such as in the top left photo). Oh well. Tony & I shared this, it was enough, no leftovers.

The line to get back in (since we didn't plan to arrive "early") to the event was very long by the time we finished our errands. Tony left the car and I switched to the drivers seat while he did a 4 mile run and I sat for 45 minutes in very slow rolling traffic. At least the views were nice.

The pulled pork nachos (with fries not chips) from Mill Creek Cattle Company was okay, not great. Most food was $18 or less. $18 for a meal. So Tony & I shared and it was good but left us a bit underwhelmed. Won't get this food again and will try something else in the future.

This is the band that performed Friday night along with a band called Fuel and one called Lit. Some songs founded familiar.  We walked around the booths and watched the balloons glow and listened to the music as we walked by but ultimately called it a night around 9:40pm so we could get out before the long lines of crazy traffic started after the concert ended. Luckily our AirBNB was only 8 miles from Lake Skinner so it worked out nicely.
